Nashville, TN. (SONY BMG MUSIC Entertainment) -
Gretchen Wilson has been one of the hottest names in country music, touring the nation, winning awards and even releasing her own book. But even she has never done a show like the one she's going to do in the Wachovia Center on Wednesday, Nov. 8.
Let's just say she's 'all jacked up'' about it.
The self-proclaimed 'Redneck Woman'' will perform a 12-song live concert while some of the world's best figure skaters display their talents to her songs on the ice. The "Gretchen Wilson Country on Ice" skating spectacular will be a one-night only event exclusively at the Wachovia Center .
The combination of country music's CMA, CMT, ACM and Grammy Winning artist with the Olympic, World, and National Champion skaters guarantee 'Gretchen Wilson's Country on Ice'' is much like her debut album – 'Here For the Party.''
Wilson is currently nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year and Collaboration of the Year for "Politically Uncorrect" with Merle Haggard for the Country Music Association Awards on Nov. 6, 2006.
Wilson 's 2004 debut album 'Here for the Party' (SonyBMG) was certified quadruple platinum and established her as the top-selling debut artist of the year for any genre. Record sales mixed with rave reviews and Wilson went on to win both a Grammy for Top Female Country Song of the Year and the Country Music Awards Horizon Award. Her 2005 follow-up 'All Jacked Up'' (SonyBMG) debuted at No 1 on both the overall Billboard list and the Billboard Country Album chart and led to top female vocalist awards for 2005 from the CMAs and the American Music Awards.
'Wilson 's highly anticipated autobiography, REDNECK WOMAN: Stories from My Life, will be published by Warner Books on November 1, 2006.'
Skaters confirmed for the one-time collaboration include four-time World Champion Kurt Browning, two-time Olympic medalist Irina Slutskaya, five-time U.S. champion Todd Eldredge and three-time U.S. titlist Michael Weiss. Recently added to the show is Lucinda Ruh, the Guinness World Record Holder for the longest and fastest spinner on ice. Ruh replaces the U.S. pairs skating team of Jenni Meno and Todd Sand, who recently welcomed their second child.
'Over the years, the Greater Philadelphia Region has shown its love and support for country music concerts and live figure skating events,'' said Steven Disson, President of Disson Skating, which is producing the event.. "On November 8, the pieces will come together for an unbelievable alliance as the best in country music - Gretchen Wilson - shares the Wachovia Center with the many of the best in figure skating. It will be a magical night for the live Philadelphia audience and fans across the country that will witness the one-time event on NBC."
