NEW YORK (Top40 Charts/ www.heavensentmedia.com) - When inspirational soul artist, Johnnie Proby, released her independent CD 'Life is Now' in May of 2006, she left many music promoters, radio disc jocks, marketers, and record labels at a loss. She has a style you don't see a lot of today in the industry. Although she could hook a jazz audience when she first opens her mouth, she has no problem attracting those who love classical, inspirational, or Gospel music. Her music isn't for any particular race, age, denomination, or gender. It is loved and appreciated by everyone. 'I would love to be the voice that brings all people together for one cause,' Johnnie says. That cause is love.
Radio stations aren't sure where to place Johnnie Proby's music. The smooth sounds of 'Born Free' and 'Golden Time of Day' are afternoon delights for jazz stations. Her soulful rendition of 'A Change is Gonna Come' can be played on R&B and inspirational stations. Both domestic and international audiences can appreciate the classical tones in 'We' and 'Imitate the Sun'. It isn't Gospel music, but it is faith based. Johnnie Proby's management has received hundreds of calls, emails, and letters from listeners that love and appreciate her music. So, what do we do with Johnnie Proby?
Johnnie arrived in Atlanta, Georgia on Tuesday, September 5, 2006. She performed for her first Atlanta audience on Saturday, September 9, 2006. There were approximately 50 people in attendance. She continued to perform at churches, schools, and festival activities around the Atlanta area. With every engagement bringing another opportunity. Four months after her arrival, on Monday, January 15, 2007, Johnnie performed at the Martin Luther King, Jr. March and Rally to an audience of over 500,000. 'I had never seen an audience that big before,' Johnnie states. It doesn't stop there. Johnnie's successful performance at the Martin Luther King, Jr. March and Rally earned her several invitations for future performance opportunities which include opening for renowned Gospel artist, Helen Baylor, as well as working with the United Negro College Fund, and future engagements at the Wren's Nest.
So, what do we do with Johnnie Proby? We give her the microphone, start the music and let God continue to do what He is doing in and through her. He has proven, through Johnnie Proby, He doesn't need our help.
