NEW YORK, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Atlantic Records) - Atlantic Records has set a U.S. release date for "THE CHRONICLES OF A BOHEMIAN TEENAGER," the critically acclaimed debut album from Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. Already a critical sensation in the UK, the album arrives on these shores on April 3rd.
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly is the nom de musique of a gifted 21-year-old musician, producer, and songwriter whose work splices classic activist folk-rock with modern-era technology to create a unique and irrepressible musical approach. Predominantly self-produced and performed, "THE CHRONICLES OF A BOHEMIAN TEENAGER" is a marvel - a confident and creative debut which perfectly captures Get Cape's gift for sonic invention, his passionate and political lyricism, and an extraordinary knack for penning infectious, inspired melodies.
The album was recorded largely in Get Cape's Southend bedroom, with additional sessions held at a converted lock-up in North London. The songs - which include the UK hit singles "I-Spy," "Call Me Ishmael," "War Of The Worlds," and "The Chronicles Of A Bohemian Teenager (Part One)" - traverse a wide array of subject matter, touching on good old-fashioned teenage hedonism, Get Cape's love/hate relationship with the "scummy town" he calls home, and run-ins with the British National Party (which spurred his advocacy and involvement with the UK's leading anti-fascist campaign, Love Music Hate Racism). Throughout, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly offers listeners a provocative and positive message, suggesting escape is always possible, though not without a hard-earned price.
Armed with his acoustic guitar and laptop computer, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly is truly a modern troubadour, building a truly fervent and loyal fanbase via hundreds of live shows over the past two years - a resume which spans spontaneous guerilla gigs, benefit performances, festival showcases, and hopelessly sold-out headline sets (including a recent SRO event at the 2,000-capacity London Astoria). Get Cape will herald the U.S. release of "THE CHRONICLES OF A BOHEMIAN TEENAGER" with a number of U.S. dates, including an assortment of appearances at the annual South By Southwest extravaganza in Austin, Texas. In addition, he - accompanied on stage by drummer Andy Theakstone - will play a pair of eagerly anticipated headline shows, at Los Angeles's The Echo on March 13th and New York's Mercury Lounge on March 20th.
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly has already been introduced to American audiences via Fox's "The OC," where two songs - "I-Spy" and the album-opening "Once More With Feeling" - were featured on recent episodes. At home in the UK, he has quickly joined the front ranks of British singer/songwriters, scoring a "Best Solo Artist" nomination at the 2007 Shockwaves NME Awards (placing him alongside such artists as Thom Yorke, Jarvis Cocker, and Lily Allen) and a veritable mountain of rapturous critical acclaim. Uncut bestowed four-out-of-five stars on "THE CHRONICLES OF A BOHEMIAN TEENAGER," celebrating it as "spirited, impassioned and, crucially, modern." NME hailed Get Cape as "this year's coolest, most political new hero... the kind of bright, burning voice pop has long missed."
"Suggests a whole new genre of acoustic hardcore," declared Time Out, while Rock Sound rated "THE CHRONICLES OF A BOHEMIAN TEENAGER" a 9-out-of-10, calling Get Cape "a modern-day Bob Dylan." "An incredibly exciting new talent," decreed the Sunday Times. "(His) music never sits still... here a bit Tears For Fears, there a bit Outkast; one minute fragile folk, the next Aztec Camera-like pop heartbreak." "(He) documents the ills of ignorance, prejudice, and mass consumption," noted the Guardian in its four-out-of-five starred review. "Turning campfire protests contemporary, he injects acoustic rhythms with broken beats... his passion is infectious."
The Fly praised the album's "yearningly euphoric, beat-flecked folktronica" for "transcend(ing) genre... it brings to mind the Lemonheads, Brand New, the Cure, even Oasis, and repeated listening highlights the wide scope of (his) potential." "Stunning," raved the Daily Telegraph, "It's confident, brash, opinionated, and packed with moments of tingly beauty... (Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly is) not just flying, he's soaring."
