Carolyn Dawn Johnson will be on the starting line to run the ? Marathon for the 8th annual Country
Music Marathon and ? Marathon this Saturday, April 28, in Nashville . Kicking off in Centennial Park , the course runs through
Music City 's most scenic sights and finishes at LP field. Johnson sang at the Country
Music Marathon back in 2004 with
Brad Paisley and was inspired by all the runners in the audience. The next year she was out on the sidelines cheering everyone on.
Not long afterwards, Johnson and Amy Foster-Gillies co-wrote a song for Terry Fox's 25th year anniversary in Canada . At 18 years old, Fox was diagnosed with bone cancer and forced to have his right leg amputated. While in the hospital, he was so overcome by the suffering of other cancer patients that he decided to run across Canada from east to west to raise money for cancer research. Fox would have ended his running journey in Victoria, had he not passed away. 'As I learned about Terry Fox, and remembered him from when I was a child – he inspired me to also take up running. He had run 143 marathons in a row,' Johnson recalls. 'I thought if all those people in the audience in '04 could do it, and Terry could do it with a prosthetic leg, I could do it. I had no excuse.' This race will be her third marathon.
Johnson also runs to stay healthy. 'It is my time to clear my head and take a break from everything else. Even though it's not always a breeze while I'm doing it, I feel like a million bucks after I'm done,' comments Johnson. 'It's something I can do in any town, at pretty much any time.'
Carolyn Dawn Johnson's new single, 'Got A Good Day,' hit radio last week and is from her forthcoming summer release entitled Love & Negotiation. For more information, visit www.cdj.com.
