NEW YORK (STYX Official Website) - The members of Styx were given a special memento of the World Trade Center by members of the Port Authority Police Department (PAPD) this holiday weekend. Styx has been supporting the PAPD, which lost three percent of its members on September 11, and the band held a picnic for the officers and their families in New Jersey on Friday (July 5). To show their appreciation for all that Styx has done for them, members of the PAPD presented the bandmembers with an iron cross, measuring eight inches by six inches by two inches thick, that was cut from one of the steel beams salvaged from the World Trade Center site. In a post on Styx's website (styxworld.com), singer-guitarist Tommy Shaw wrote of the moment, "I can't explain the feeling we all had holding the (cross), knowing what it had been a part of." Styx is on the road, with the next show coming Thursday (July 11) at the Moondance Jam in Walker, Minnesota. Also on the bill that night are Meat Loaf, Black Oak Arkansas, and the Gin Blossoms, among others.
