NEW YORK, NY. (Top40 Charts/ RCA Label Group) - Artists of the BMG Label Group dominate the chart this week with four of the country's Top Ten best-selling albums.
Avril Lavigne's new RCA album, The Best Damn Thing, is the nation's Number One best-seller for a second week with an additional 121,630 units sold. With her single "Girlfriend" topping the Billboard Hot 100, the Canadian pop-punk star has both the No. 1 album and the No. 1 single in the country. The Best Damn Thing entered at Number One on the charts of eleven countries including the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, and Germany; the album already has sold more than 1.75 million copies outside the U.S. Since the 2002 release of Let Go, her 6X platinum RCA debut, seven-time Juno Award winner Avril Lavigne has sold more than 24 million albums worldwide.
Joe enters the chart at No. 2 with his new Jive/Zomba release, Ain't Nothin' Like Me, and debut sales of 98,090 units. The R&B balladeer's sixth album, Ain't Nothin' Like Me features the red-hot single "If I Was Your Man"- currently a Top Five staple on Billboard's Urban AC chart and in rotation at BET and BET J. The Columbus, Georgia native has sold over five million albums over the course of his fourteen-year career and has collaborated with a host of superstars including Mariah Carey, Nas, G-Unit, and the late Big Pun. Currently gearing up for a national tour, on May 1st Joe performed "If I Was Your Man" on "The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (CBS network).
Daughtry's self-titled RCA/19 Recordings debut has twice made it to Number One on the Top 200. After 23 weeks on the chart, the 2X Platinum disc moves from No. 7 to No. 5 with sales of an additional 48,505 units. Singer Chris Daughtry and his band are riding high on the multi-format hit single "It's Not Over" and the "It's Not Over" video, which debuted at Number One on VH1's viewer-voted VSPOT Top 20 Countdown. Daughtry's headlining U.S. tour continues through May with additional dates to be announced.
Carrie Underwood's Some Hearts is now in its 76th week on the Top 200. This week, the Arista/19 Recordings album by this year's Grammy Award winner for Best New Artist rose from No. 9 to No. 8 with another 43,993 units sold. Originally released on November 15, 2005, Some Hearts was certified 5X Platinum in January 2007 to become the best-selling single-disc album of the past six years by any solo country artist. Its four Number One Country songs include "Before He Cheats," now a Top 10 at Top 40 and Top 10 Hot AC hit, and her latest Country No. 1 hit, "Wasted." This marks the first time a solo country female has hit the Top 10 at Top 40 since Shania Twain's "That Don't Impress Me Much" in May of 1999 and the first time a solo country female has hit the Hot AC Top 10 since Faith Hill's "The Way You Love Me" in December of 2000! In the Academyof Country Music Awards airing May 15 on the CBS network, Carrie Underwood is nominated in five categories including Female Vocalist, Album of the Year (Some Hearts), and Song of the Year ("Before He Cheats").
