Sanjta Monica, CA. (Top40 Charts/ Recording Academy) - WHO: GRAMMY Foundation Grant Program — generously funded by The Recording Academy and currently in its 20th year, the Grants Program has awarded more than $4.6 million to over 200 noteworthy projects. WHAT: The Grants Program administers grants annually to organizations and individuals to support efforts that advance the archiving and preservation of the music and recorded sound heritage of the Americas for future generations, as well as scientific research projects related to the impact of music on the human condition. Recipients are determined based on criteria such as merit, uniqueness of project and the ability to accomplish intended goals. Recognizing the richness of collections held by individuals and organizations that may not have access to the expertise needed to create a preservation plan, the GRAMMY Foundation Grant Program has expanded its granting categories to include planning grants for individuals and small- to mid-sized organizations. The planning process, which might include inventorying and stabilizing a collection, articulates the steps to be taken to ultimately archive recorded sound materials for future generations. This new planning grant category provides funds for archiving consultants and experts and other resources for planning. The GRAMMY Foundation has also opened up its granting in the area of scientific research to projects conducted as work toward an advanced degree. While projects still must demonstrate scientific rigor, the GRAMMY Foundation believes that this addition will open the program up to many more worthwhile projects being done by students at the graduate level. WHEN: Grant applications currently online at www.grammyfoundation.com/grants Deadline to apply is Oct. 1, 2007.
