SANTA MONICA, CA. (Top40 Charts/ SLG) - "NORTHERN LIGHTS: An Evening With
Sissel and Friends," a vibrant new PBS special and commercial CD and DVD from Denon Classics, brings together one of the brightest talents of the 21st Century - the lovely and popular Norwegian vocalist
Sissel - along with celebrated guest and friend Jose Carreras in an elegant evening of holiday inspired song. Filmed live in the hauntingly beautiful 17th century Norwegian village of Roros, "NORTHERN LIGHTS" will anchor the December pledge drive efforts of PBS beginning with airings during the Thanksgiving weekend. The artists will tour the United States for a limited number of very high profile concert events from January through March 2008. The program is partially underwritten by Barnes and Noble Booksellers who will be a promotional partner for the broadcasts as well as the DENON CD and DVD of the program. In addition,
Sissel is showcased in a second PBS program - the "Great Performances" production with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir that will air on PBS stations beginning December 18, 2007.
When internationally renowned vocalist Sissel and friend Jose Carreras raise their magnificent voices in song, surrounded by the vibrant blue sky and grandeur of Norway's snow-capped mountains, viewers will feel as if they were literally transported across the globe. The lithe, stunning Sissel is the rare concert artist and international recording star who can sing everything from operatic arias and classical works to traditional folk, modern jazz and pop. The program showcases her unique range of musical styles in a setting that evokes the wintry magic of the holiday season. The town of Roros, little changed since 1650, is itself such an international treasure that it's on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The quaint architecture of this ancient village and the snow-covered landscape serve as a stunning counterpoint to the warm and sensual voice of Sissel, who performed in a landmark stone church that has served as a beacon for this community since 1784.
Says Jerry Liwanag, Vice President Fundraising Programming, WTTW in Chicago: "It will be a great pleasure to work with Sissel again. She has always had a strong appeal with the PBS audience and we look forward to introducing this new show. Her music has impressed audiences of all ages and her new show is sure to expand her allure and popularity."
Since her recording career began at the age of 16, Sissel's music has already touched millions. With a repertoire ranging from Schubert to Bach to John Lennon to the 30 million selling soundtrack to "Titanic," Sissel has steadfastly defied categorization. Her unique voice is an irrepressible vehicle that allows her to effortlessly transcend genres pleasing aficionados of classical, pop and folk music. She's nothing short of passionate about the entire repertoire she presents and "NORTHERN LIGHTS" is no exception. It's a stunning tour de force that takes her talents to prestigious new heights. With concurrent specials running on PBS in December and a tour in early 2008, Sissel is set to make a deservedly distinct impression on U.S. audiences.
