New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Palmetto Records) - A singer with a diverse musical upbringing ranging from Celtic folk to British rock and 70s funk, it is no surprise jazz vocalist Kate McGarry's music and career are moving forward in several directions. In the wake of McGarry's latest release 'The Target' (Palmetto Records), the subtle yet expressive vocalist is also: • Writing, recording and producing (with guitarist/husband Keith Ganz) 63 children's songs for the Heinle Picture Dictionary For Children. • Singing and recording with the vocal group MOSS (featuring Peter Eldridge, Theo Bleckmann, Lauren Kinhan and Luciana Souza). • Joining the jazz faculty at the Manhattan School of Music in September. In a recent interview on NPR's 'All Things Considered' with host Michele Norris, McGarry discussed how her passion for jazz, traditional Irish music and other styles has influenced her approach as a singer, bandleader and composer. 'I love jazz music and I've had different times in my life where I focus really strongly on different genres,' McGarry explained. 'So I look at it like there's a well inside and I'm just putting different things in that well and then they're going to come out later.' To listen to McGarry's NPR appearance, click here.
