London, UK. (Top40 Charts/ SONY BMG MUSIC Entertainment) - Today saw the Foo Fighters going straight into the UK album chart at No.1, giving the Columbia Label Group their 5th No.1 artist album of the year, more than any other company this year so far. The Foo Fighters sixth album Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace sold 135,685 copies last week, also giving it the highest week one sales of any international album in the UK this year. This is their second No.1 UK album and they have now sold over 3 million albums here. Columbia's other No.1 albums this year have come from The View, Kings Of Leon, Avril Lavigne and Editors. In April of this year Avril Lavigne, Mark Ronson and The Kings of Leon were numbers 1, 2 and 3 in the chart respectively for Columbia, the first time one company had enjoyed the top 3 albums for over ten years. Mike Smith, MD Columbia Label Group said: "The success of this fantastic Foo Fighters record tops off what has already been a year of many highlights at the label. Dave Grohl and the bandhave been sensational in supporting this record, getting them in to host a playback and an unforgettable gig at Dingwalls was a great start to the campaign."
