"The unwavering dedication of the members of MNMP to the legacy of Nash and his incomparable work is heard in bursts of joyous conviction, anguish and urgency. Jazz Cycles, amazingly recorded in a single six-hour session, is an adventure in risk taking. Nash left a bright light shining on the music world." - John Barron, All About Jazz

"A worthy memorial project and makes one hope the Paul Nash Memorial Fund has further success in bringing more of his compositions to a wider audience." - J.B. Spins, jbspins.blogspot.com

"Jazz Cycles" is one of the last recordings Paul produced with his ensemble, the Manhattan New Music Project, but the material in this set has been developed over many years. These pieces have a richness which makes them worth playing and hearing many times over. Paul's compositions were orchestrated with compelling accompaniments and background figures that inspired his soloists to greater heights. Additionally, Paul included beautifully scored ensemble passages utilizing the wide variety of instrumental colors available in his ensemble. Written from materials collected over the course of 30 years and completed in the last year of his life, Jazz Cycles is a kind of suite where each track may be heard as a movement in a larger artistic structure.

Now in its seventeenth year of programming, Manhattan New Music Project is a performing arts organization that is recognized worldwide for artistic excellence in jazz and contemporary music. Begun in 1990 by a group of like-minded composers with the aim of fostering the creation and presentation of new musical works, MNMP has sought to cross traditional musical boundaries and catalyze imaginative projects and collaborations involving the creation of new work through performances, recordings, educational and collaborative activities.
