New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Universal Republic Records) - Universal Republic Records' hip-hop trailblazers
Shop Boyz landed their first ever Grammy nod on Thursday, pulling down possible honors for Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or A Group for their genre-leaping, multi-platform anthem 'Party Like A Rockstar.'
Incredibly, it was the 13th award nomination for the Atlanta hip-hop trio, which has taken home 3 trophies in 2007 including Ringtone Of The Year at the 2007 Vibe Awards, the Andre 3000 Trendsetter Award at the 3rd Annual
Radio One Dirty Awards, and most recently, Best Track honors a the 2nd Annual BET Hip-Hop awards in October. The 'Hood Rock' pioneers are also nominated for a coveted People's Choice Award for Favorite Hip-Hop song, with the 34th Annual Awards scheduled to air on CBS on January 8, 2008. The 50th Annual Grammy Awards will be held at the Staples Center in LA on February 10.
Crowned as the biggest-selling ringtone for in 2007, 'Party Like A Rockstar' was spawned from their No 11 debuting album Rockstar Mentality, cementing an unparalleled string of No 1's in virtually every radio, video, and wireless chart available. The cutting-edge smash single, selling over 3.3 million units, also became the fastest Universal Music Group mastertone to be certified platinum, reaching the coveted million-ringtone milestone in only six weeks. The raucous, genre-mashing, rap-meets-rock anthem has made the Atlanta trio the most honored hip-hop artists in music in 2007 (see list below), dominating the Billboard's Digital and Hot 100 Singles Charts all year long.
The hit single also reigned at No 1 on Billboard's Hot RingMasters Chart, and No 2 on Billboard's Hot Digital Songs Chart (as well as No 1 on iTunes and MySpace), becoming the fastest mover on every ringtone and wireless carrier chart of the format. And now, a special 'holiday' Ringtone version of the riveting hip-hop classic will be made available to fans wanting to 'Party Like A Rockstar' with a seasonal twist.
Affirmed this past fall as a fan-certified hip-hop favorite as an AOL 'Breaker,' the group's barrier-smashing signature song catapulted them to the forefront of the popular music destination via interactive fan voting. After conquering the Ringtone, Urban, Rap, MySpace and iTunes domains, the group is currently blowing out a sold-out tour with Marquee superstar Chris Brown. Earlier in the year they completed a much buzzed-about road trek on the Mountain Dew sponsored Ball 4 Real Tour.
