Mutemath Receive Their First Grammy Nomination

BURBANK, CA. (Top40 Charts/ Warner Bros. Records) - Eclectic New Orleans alt-rock quartet MUTEMATH have been nominated for their first-ever Grammy Award this past week in Los Angeles. Their nomination is under the category of "Best Short Form Video" for their groundbreaking clip "Typical," which has become a highly visible YouTube attraction with nearly 2 million views to date.

The video for the single, "Typical," which kick-started the MUTEMATH buzz, was filmed over a two-day period in Nashville in February 2007. The high-action shoot of the band performing the song was captured in one continuous take by a single camera and divided in two seamless parts. The "backwards" concept for the clip was a collaborative effort between the band and then 18-year-old filmmaker Israel Anthem. In order for the backwards clip to look authentic, band members decided to learn their instrumental and vocal parts in reverse and carefully choreograph each movement so when the video is viewed, the performance would appear as accurately and naturally as possible in real time though the film runs completely in reverse. The resultant clip first appeared online in March 2007 and still continues to skyrocket into a trajectory of its own.

"Typical" was the first video for both MUTEMATH and director Israel Anthem, who tours with MUTEMATH as their live video programmer and video blogger. He contributed part of the B-roll footage for the band's "Flesh And Bones Electric Fun" live DVD and is involved with local TV commercial work in Nashville.

Over the past 18 months MUTEMATH has been dazzling audiences around the world touring non-stop behind their self-titled Teleprompt/Warner Bros. Records debut album released in 2006. Their debut live DVD "Flesh And Bones Electric Fun," followed as further proof of the band's dynamic and occasionally dangerous, unpredictable live reputation. In that time, the band has appeared live on "The Late Show with David Letterman," "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live." In fact, MUTEMATH recently made television history by being the first band ever to perform completely in reverse on a nationally televised show recreating the "Typical" performance for their 2nd Kimmel appearance this past September 19.

MUTEMATH have just announced their biggest tour to date supporting Matchbox 20 beginning January 25 in Hollywood, Florida, and ending March 18 in Las Vegas. Shortly thereafter, MUTEMATH will continue to record on their next Teleprompt/Warner Bros. Records album expected late 2008.
