LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts/ Shakira Official Website) - Composer performer Shakira today received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song - Motion Picture for "Despedida" from Love in the Time of Cholera.
"I composed Despedida with all my love for Garcia Marquez, who is for me a true genius and the most eloquent spokesman of my people, so it is an honor to have this music embraced by the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press," said Shakira. It was an exciting week for the Colombian superstar who just one week ago today received a Grammy nomination for her performance of "Beautiful Liar" with Beyonce.

Shakira wrote, who produced and recorded two original songs and contributed a third for the film, was approached by the film's director and Garcia Marquez to compose for the film. "It has been so refreshing to step out for a second from the world of pop music to create songs in the context of Latin American folk", she said.

"Despedida is my dream song; I always wanted to create a song that evoked the mountains of my country and the lament of the Andes. To create music inspired by the works of one of the most extraordinary writers in history and also a close friend to my heart like Gabriel Garcia Marquez was a unique opportunity I could not miss."

Shakira has sold millions of records, had 60 No 1 singles around the world, and received two Grammys and three Latin Grammys. She created her Pies Descalzos foundation in 1999 to help poor and displaced children and their families in Colombia. She founded, along with Gabriel Garcia Marquez and others, ALAS, a foundation which focuses on the needs of children in Latin America.
