LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts/ Amoeba Records) - Brandi Shearer, the bluesy rocker who the LA Weekly raves has 'a heaven-sent, heart-shuddering vocal style that makes her sound worldly and seasoned well beyond her young years,' will kick off 2008 by hitting the road with Vermont's raucous
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. The tour, which is the first ever sponsored by Amoeba, starts in Jacksonville, FL on January 14.
Shearer's Amoeba Records release 'Close To Dark,' with its blend of up-tempo, bluesy rockers and country-tinged smoky ballads is out now. Variety said a recent LA performance 'showcased her impressively bluesy voice and songwriting. There's more than a touch of Janis Joplin heft...Shearer always seemed ready to cut loose and start smashing the furniture.'
In an effort to expand their support of independent music beyond their stores and label and share their passion, Amoeba is branching out into tours, bringing some of independent music's brightest performers to fans across the country. Look for a spring tour with Shearer and Quincy Coleman.
Amoeba also recently began allowing fans to download music by Shearer for free (along with their other favorite singer Gram Parsons) at Amoeba.com. As part of their 'Sharing Our Passion' program, they're giving away free downloads of 'Close To Dark' track-by-track every 2 weeks until the entire album has been made available (alongside 'Gram Parsons Archives Vol. 1: The Flying Burrito Brothers Live at the Avalon Ballroom 1969').
You can also go to Amoeba.com to download Shearer's heartbreakingly beautiful version of 'Have Yourself A Merry Litttle Christmas.'
