New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Serious Business Records) - Meet the Two Man Gentlemen Band, a duo consisting of Andy Bean, banjoist, huckster and master of ceremonies, and his dear friend The Councilman on bass. Both wear fancy hats and impeccably tailored suits. Each is a master kazooist and badminton enthusiast, and together they combine hot jazz, old-time country, Tin Pan Alley and vaudevillian swing to create an old-fashioned, down-home hootenanny.
The Gentlemen specialize in clever, quirky and sometimes naughty tunes and a raucous live show, full of sing-a-longs, kazoo-a-longs and fierce banjo playing. The traditional performance gets underway with distribution of free kazoos, courtesy of official sponsor Kazoos.com. Andy Bean has been known to cajole the audience into participating, and isn't shy when it comes to the crowds' kazoo-playing skills. "You sound like a swarm of locusts!" cries the always-constructive critic. The duo tours incessantly, with badminton net in tow, performing over 200 shows in the past year.
'Heavy Petting,' due out February 12 on Serious Business Records, is ripe with old-time charm, playful wit and wry, idiosyncratic lyrics, which vary in subject from the historical, to the romantic, to the bawdy, to the inane. Gems from the album include songs like "They Can't Prohibit Love" "My Baby's Off The Market" and "When Your Lips Are Playing My Kazoo." Naughty innuendos abound, but nary a dirty word is uttered. They are gentlemen, after all.
