Wilmington, NC. (Top40 Charts/ Pandora's Legacy) - The video for the single "Cry" from the hit underground record "Schizophrenology," by Wilmington, NC rock band The Majestic Twelve, is currently No 7 on MTVu's Dean's List.
"As an independent band, all we've ever wanted was the chance to compete," comments front man Kenyata Sullivan. "In this new era of the music business, things like this prove that a band like us who don't want a record label can still get out there and play ball with the big boys. That's exciting."
The Majestic Twelve's sophomore record and underground hit, Schizophrenology has been downloaded over 50,000 times (probably much more than that, but they keep forgetting to ask their webguy) since releasing independently for free in 2006, long before "In Rainbows" set the benchmark for brilliant marketing concepts. They've subsequently sold close to 12,000 physical discs fresh-direct from their website. "Schizophrenology" also charted nationally on college radio for more than two months, and continues to receive airplay all over the country. "Music directors from all over are actively emailing and asking us when our next record will be released, which is flattering and humbling. We're just working real hard, moving forwards the best we can, and trying not to suck," says Sullivan.
The band is currently working in the studio with longtime collaborator Jerry Kee (Superchunk, Ryan Adams, Polvo) on their third album, slated for release this summer.
