LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts/ New West Records) - Legendary music renegade Steve Earle was honored by the Recording Academy with a Grammy Award for his album Washington Square Serenade (New West Records) in the Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album category during their 50th annual ceremony last night in Los Angeles. This honor marks Earle's 2nd Grammy Award.

Earle is currently in Europe on the Washington Square Serenade Tour, which comes to North America at the end of February. The tour is unique as Earle has DJ Neil McDonald along, providing beats heard on songs off the album produced by John King of the Dust Brothers (Beck, The Rolling Stones, Beastie Boys). Earle's wife, Allison Moorer, is featured as a special guest during Earle's set as well as opening support.

Washington Square Serenade, which celebrated author Stephen King rated No 1 on his list of top music of 2007 for Entertainment Weekly, was called "...downright electrifying" by Harp magazine while The Independent (UK) calls Earle "America's Greatest Songwriter."The album also received four stars in both Uncut and Blender while garnering three stars in USA Today, Rolling Stone, The Los Angeles Times, Mojo and The Associated Press.
