NEW YORK (Top40 Charts/ Atlantic Records) - Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen recording group
Cobra Starship has just sold out every date on its debut headline tour.
In fact, the demand for tickets was so great that the band had to add a second show in many markets, as well as scheduling matinees and playing two shows in one day in both
Boston and New York. "The Really Really Ridiculously Good Looking Tour" - which celebrated the dance-punk sensations' critically acclaimed second album, "?VIVA LA COBRA!" - blew away fans in 50 cities, and
Cobra Starship has no intention of kicking back and resting on its laurels. Far from it, in fact - already on their dance card are appearances at mtvU's Campus Invasion, slated for Friday, May 2nd at University of Maryland College Park's Byrd Stadium, and Saturday, May 3rd at Penn's Landing in Philadelphia; the Bamboozle Festival set for Sunday, May 4th at New Jersey's Meadowlands Sports Complex; and the UK's annual Give It A Name extravaganza, slated to rock London and Sheffield on May 10th and 11th.
Cobra Starship will also spend the entire summer on the Vans Warped Tour.
Last week, Cobra Starship rocked the stage at ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and are already set for more high-profile TV appearances in the coming weeks. On Thursday, April 3rd, the band will hit NYC for a live performance on NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," followed later that same month with a concert appearance during MTV's annual "Spring Break" festivities (check local listings).
"VIVA LA COBRA!" - which follows the band's 2006 debut, "WHILE THE CITY SLEEPS, WE RULE THE STREETS" - was recorded in Brooklyn with Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump producing. The album's first single, "The City Is At War," was a top 10 sensation on MTV, MTV2, and mtvU. In addition, Cobra Starship was among the first stars of MTV's "52 Bands," a special feature segment that highlights one new band per week throughout the year. "Guilty Pleasure," the album's new single, will impact at radio later this month. The band will be shooting a brand-new companion video to the single, complementing the earlier clip - directed by Cobra Starship - which is currently up for view at YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfCYv82xOno).
Largely written on tour during the sold out 2007 Honda Civic Tour with Fall Out Boy, "?VIVA LA COBRA!" has drawn acclaim for its idiosyncratic blending of eclectic party anthems and witty cultural critique. Alternative Press gave it a 4-star review stating, "Contemporary emo-pop sensibilities meet '80s party abandon on this record, and neither have sounded so enjoyable in years." Blender hailed it as "blue-eyed soul with a wink and a dose of manic energy." Entertainment Weekly noted that the album "improves on 2006's 'WHILE THE CITY SLEEPS...,' with catchier hooks and harder-rocking beats," while Penthouse praised Saporta for his chronicles of "downtown life in a mashed-up universe: '80s synths, guest raps, thundering party rock, and Spanish trash talk somehow make sense after a spin in (Saporta's) cultural blender."
