LONDON, UK (Virgin Radio) - A survey claims more than two-thirds of Britons want the production line of manufactured stars from television talent shows halted.
Figures show even 63% of teenagers believe there are too many of these acts around.

The survey was commissioned by Virgin Radio which has banned its presenters from mentioning the likes of Will Young and Gareth Gates.

The results show 82% of youngsters think more support should be given to real music talent, instead of products from shows such as BBC1's Fame Academy and ITV1's Popstars.

Artists such as David Bowie and Richard Ashcroft have recently called for greater attention to be given to performers who can write songs and play instruments.
The survey shows 67% of the public want a halt to the procession of manufactured music.

Virgin Radio commissioned the poll for which 1,002 people aged 16 and over were interviewed between October 26 and 27.
