NEW YORK, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Hybrid Recordings) - With the announcement of the 2008 Jammy Award nominees, Reid Genauer, lead singer and songwriter for Assembly Of Dust, was honored with his third nomination. In 2000 Genauer won the Home Grown
Music Award at the Jammys with his first band Strangefolk. This is the second Jammy nomination for Genauer with Assembly Of Dust, who were recognized in 2004 for "Man with a Plan" off their album "The Honest Hour." This year's nomination is for a track off "Recollection" entitled "Telling Sue" in the category of Song of the Year.
"The entertainment industry has a tendency to be somewhat self serving and self congratulatory," says Genauer. "However, this is an example of an award ceremony that genuinely celebrates artistic commitment, live music and grass roots ingenuity. I'm proud to be a part of it."
Assembly Of Dust's third studio album "Recollection," released on Hybrid Recordings in March of 2007, marked a high point for the band and its chief songwriter and singer Reid Genauer. "Recollection" features ten road-tested songs about love, loss and living, as on the album standout "Telling Sue," a timeless tune about the drudgeries of the working world set to an infectious shuffle beat.
The 7th annual Jammy Awards, to be held on May 7th at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden, honor the best in live improvisational music. In addition to the awards ceremony, the show features performances that pair stars of the jam music scene with those from the pop, rock, reggae, gospel and jazz worlds. Previous live collaborations at the Jammys include John Mayer and Buddy Guy, Sinead O'Connor and Burning Spear, and Bela Fleck & the Flecktones with Savion Glover and McCoy Tyner.
The 2008 edition of the Jammys is co-hosted by jam band mainstays Warren Haynes and Grace Potter, and presented by Relix Magazine, Jambands.com and Peter Shapiro. The 2008 Lifetime Achievement award, in years past awarded to luminaries and forefathers of jam band music such as Frank Zappa and Steve Winwood, is being presented to Phish.
