LONDON, UK (By
Nicole Dean/ 24-7 Entertainment) - Today 24-7 Entertainment announced that it distributed 10 million full-length audio tracks and music videos in
Europe during the month of April alone. This figure further reinforces 24-7 Entertainment's position as the leading B2B digital distribution provider in Europe. Downloads are up 732% from April 2007. The volume has soared in particular, due to powering successful subscription services such as TDC's Play in Denmark and Omnifone's MusicStation in the UK.
'Currently a few of the majors are offering DRM-free MP3's but it is expected that all of them will be on board shortly and at the time, we believe the download figures will rise even more dramatically', said Frank Taubert, CEO 24-7 Entertainment.
'We already have several stores in our partner portfolio which exclusively sell MP3 content and we are very impressed with the figures.' Already 70% of 24-7's music catalogue, currently consisting of 3.5 million music tracks, is in the DRM-free MP3 format. Taubert continued, 'according to our estimates, 24-7 expects to reach 130 million downloads by the end of the year'.
The company powers 40 services in 13 countries throughout Europe including major retailers and telcos such as Media Markt, Saturn, CDON, TDC, ElGiganten, Libro, ExLibris, Sunrise, Freenet and many others.
After successfully mastering the challenges of distributing digital music via all access channels including mobile, online and cable, and utilizing both business models (subscription and pay-per-download) , 24-7 will now focus on expanding their product range to encompass feature films and TV series. The company also plans to open new offices in additional territories; they are currently located in Berlin, London, Copenhagen and Barcelona.
