 Toronto, Canada (Top40 Charts/ Toronto Blues Society) - The Toronto Blues Society will hold its 23rd Anniversary Party at Yonge Dundas Square, the newly developed public space in the centre of the city. A noontime concert on Wednesday, May 21st will feature Brooklyn-born, Swiss-raised and Toronto-based powerhouse singer, Shakura S'Aida. She plans to blow out the candles for the Toronto Blues Society's 23rd Anniversary Party during the free concert event.. Shakura recently wowed judges and musicians alike at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis where she won 2nd place. Her classic R&B style, soulful voice and high energy personality set her apart from all but one of the 159 acts from 36 states, 10 countries and six continents. In 2006, Shakura released her fiery debut blues album "Blueprint" which earned strong critical applause. The 11-track CD takes listeners on a journey through the blues of the 1940's and 50's and is infused with her signature voice and sultry interpretation of the music. She has just returned from a series of concerts in Europe, and flew back from Holland to take part in the recent jazz tribute to the late Jeff Healey. Shakura is also an experienced film and television actor, and is currently working on a new CTV/CBS co-production, Flashpoint.
