Champaign, IL. (Top40 Charts/ Mark Alan Cornell Official Website) - MarkAlanCornell.com has released the Doctor Wu Rock and Soul Revue's first album in almost 7 years. Reunion: Live at the Mark Cornell Cancer Benefit, chronicles an evening of music some said would never happen again, since the DWRSR dissolved in 2002. But on January 26, 2008, the Revue was reunited for 4 hours when they played the Mark Cornell Cancer Benefit. Former members flew in from all over the United States to play their brand of Rock, Soul and Rhythm and Blues music.
Attended by some 600 fans, friends and family, the event was recorded and as a result MarkAlanCornell.com released the Doctor Wu Rock and Soul Revue's new CD of live music, the proceeds of which benefit Mark and his family.
"We needed to record Mark's benefit because the band hadn't played live in almost 7 years. The crowd's enthusiasm really came through, so the Revue volunteered to release it on CD and donate the proceeds to Mark," according to guitarist Jon Clarkson, the band's longtime recording engineer. "Reunion: Live at the Mark Cornell Cancer Benefit, is packed full of all the high spirits and zaniness of that evening. It is really an awesome testimony to the power of Love and Soul Music."
Included on this CD is Pat Lee's patter, George Ozier's chatter and the hard driving soul grooves for which the band is famous, but the ambiance is provided by the large crowd itself. Reviewer Dave Dickey of Groove Bone who was in attendance that evening comments, "I was extremely impressed with the turn-out for Mark Cornell's Benefit Concert. A lot of love was shown that night, both in the crowd and on stage. The music was great; the crowd and musicians enjoyed it and the CD reflects that."
Formed in 1993, the DWRSR dissolved officially on New Years Day 2002, after nearly a decade on the road. Previous recordings include the album, Fingerpoppin' (OOP) and the never released Wanna Play Doctor?
Reunion: Live at the Mark Cornell Cancer Benefit by the Doctor Wu Rock and Soul Revue is available as a CD from CDBaby.com or as an mp3 download from Amazon, Apple iTunes, Rhapsody and other online distributors.
