New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - Congratulations to Anat Cohen, who yesterday was named Clarinetist of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association (JJA) for the second consecutive year. This marks the first time in the history of the awards that an artist has earned top clarinet honors two years running. In other news, the Anat Cohen Quartet is scheduled to perform at the New York Society for Ethical Culture next week, June 25, as part of the JVC Jazz Festival. Cohen will preview compositions from her forthcoming album 'Notes From The Village' - on which she plays clarinet, tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, and bass clarinet - due out in September on her own Anzic Records. The performance will feature guest appearances by Anat's brothers Avishai and Yuval Cohen, and is part of a double bill which also includes acclaimed young bassist Esperanza Spalding. Jazz Times recently called Cohen and Spalding "extraordinary young band leaders" who "have emerged as two of the most captivating young improvisers in New York."
