11,000 Downloads And Counting For The Locals!

CHICAGO, Ill. (Localsrock.com, Locals Official Website) - The Locals most recent CD, “Baby Buddhas and Little Einsteins” was released on Nov. 9 2002.

The CD release party was held to a packed house at Chicago’s favorite bar turned brothel Subterranean Cabaret. In many ways this cd release party was similar to most: the band played for a little over an hour and 15 minutes, cd’s were sold, partying ensued.
But The Locals Cd release also had a couple of tasty door prizes: 4 free tickets to The Wallflowers, House of Blues Concert (Courtesy of Chicagogigs.com) and “The Indie Lunch Box Set”. The box set is a retro, metal lunchbox filled with cd’s donated from indie artists like Jonatha Brooke, Guster, Knee Deep Shag, Down the Line, The Locals and more.

On hand to draw the winner of the Lunch Box, was a surly character called “The Lunch Lady”, her true identity was kept secret. The band would only say that under the blue wig (with macaroni, mustard and other food groups), the blue apron, and the free-wheelin-fake bosoms, was a long time, die-hard Locals fan. The lucky winner was Lori Lvscri from Chicago, IL.

The Locals are building quite a reputation for their over-the-top energetic stage presence along with their equally energetic (albeit sometimes a bit left of center) promotional tactics. For example, the summer of 2003 marks the return of the “Adult Sized Hip-Hop Ball” , emblazoned with the Locals’ mascot “Stewy”

As a return for all their efforts, The Locals new cd has racked up over 11,000 downloads online and is holding steady at #3 on Mp3.com’s, Chicago Rock Chart.
