It's jazz vocalist Kate McGarry to the rescue in an upcoming jazz-themed episode of the Nick Jr. tv series Wonder Pets! They're known for saving baby animals and saving the day, and soon these superheroes will be rescuing jazz cats. In the special episode, entitled "The Wonder Pets save the Cool Cat and the Hip Hippo," McGarry proves she's "got the right stuff" as she sings the familiar Wonder Pets theme song in a jazz-scat style. The innovative episode also features the legendary Eartha Kitt as the Cool Cat and famed jazz vocalist Jon Hendricks as the Hip Hippo. Of her role in the series, McGarry says, "The episode is a blast and will bring awareness of jazz and scat singing to kids in a fun way." To quote The Wonder Pets, "This is sewrious!" "The Wonder Pets save the Cool Cat and the Hip Hippo" will air on the upcoming new season of the Nickelodeon/Nick Jr. series for preschoolers, premiering in October. Kate McGarry's new CD, 'If Less Is More...Nothing Is Everything,' will be released on Palmetto Records August 19 and according to The Philadelphia Daily News, "continues her habit of comfortably treading the line dividing pop and jazz, with songs by Bob Dylan, Irving Berlin and even the Cars' "Just What I Needed," reimagined as a tender acoustic ballad."
