LOS ANGELES, CA. (Top40 Charts/ Luck Media & Marketing) - "Future Calling," the title of the debut single by Naples, Florida based alt pop rock powerhouse
Phoenix Block, continues to prove joyfully prophetic. For the week of
September 9, 2008, the song from the band's just released debut album Chemtrails catapulted from No 29 into the Top 20 at No 20.
This distinction puts Phoenix Block (www.phoenixblock.com) in some incredible company on the weekly chart. The band has pulled ahead of Staind, Jason Mraz and 3 Doors Down and is just behind John Mayer and American Idol finalist David Archuleta.
Driven by a passionate energy and modern electronica experimentalism, Phoenix Block creates an undeniable emotional power that is touching fans throughout in Florida and beyond. Their rise began with the collaboration of lead vocalist Andrew Jaffe and guitarist/keyboardist Steve Schoeffler, lifelong friends who grew up in South Jersey. Influenced early on by The Beatles, they found their chief melodic inspirations in the pop icons of the 70s and 80s: Billy Joel, Elton John, The Eagles, The Police and U2. The two made a go of it in New York City, playing in bands like Stretch Vinyl and Son of You in Greenwich Village and on the Northeast college circuit.
Bassist Tony Catania was born in Sicily, Italy and studied classical guitar, flute and piano at the Music Conservatory Vincenzo Bellini. While gravitating towards the bass by playing with many bands in his native country, he also became a fan of America's punk influence of the 70's and 80's as well as the European electronic sound. He achieved success as a writer and producer for Scatman John and later worked with artists like Lenny Kravitz and Lionel Richie.
The band's developing vibe quickly solidified when the three met drummer Darrell Nutt in a local club in Fort Myers, Florida. Nutt, who began playing at the age of four, had his first professional recording session at age 14. His credits include AC/DC and Steely Dan.
Phoenix Block's highly anticipated debut album Chemtrails was produced and mixed by Catania, recorded at Orange Glow Studios in South Florida mastered by George Marino of Sterling Sound, NYC (Coldplay, Bon Jovi, Stevie Wonder).
