Europe Music Awards with nine spectacular performances plus a witty and "fruity" debut performance by Host Katy Perry. Jared Leto and his fellow members provided between performance antics and banter from the bar at the Glamour Pit. The 2008 MTV

Thursday 6th November and are sponsored by edc by Esprit, Sony Ericsson and Dell.
Riding a Cherry Chapstick, Katy Perry opened the proceedings surrounded by cheerleaders in a performance of I Kissed A Girl. She delivered the first happy finish of the evening when the top of the chapstick exploded in a shower of glitter.
P!nk was the first award winner of the night, picking up Most Additive Track for So What from UK pop trio, Sugababes.
Beyonce took to the stage at the MTV Europe Music Awards for the third time for a riveting and classy performance of new single If I Were A Boy supported by an all-girl band.
Former Liverpool footballer Michael Owen and Anastacia presented Headliner to Tokio Hotel.
Returning after a fifteen year break, Take That mesmerised the audience with an exclusive first - an atmospheric performance of their new single Greatest Day.
30 Seconds to Mars were awarded Rock Out by Solange Knowles and Travis McCoy, lead vocalist for Gym Class Heroes.
Britney Spears won the first of her two awards of the evening for Album Of The Year for Blackout. The Award was presented by UK R&B star Craig David.
Following their outdoor performance in Copenhagen in 2006, The Killers revealed the versatility of the set when the screen lifted up to reveal the band performing Human in a steel box installation accompanied by stunning three dimensional visuals.
Kanye West and Estelle both made their performance debuts at this year's show. Following a stylish rendition of Love Lock Down, Kanye was joined by the first lady of UK urban music for a performance of American Boy. The artists used the performance to tribute to the next President of the United States Barack Obama.
The legendary Grace Jones then strode onto the podium to present New Act to the Host of The MTV Europe Music Awards, Katy Perry.
The next award - Video Star as selected by MTV - was awarded to 30 Seconds to Mars for A Beautiful Life. The band collected their second award of the evening from Everton midfielder Tim Cahill and MTV UK's very own celebrity, Kerry Katona.
Fresh from her own Award victory, Katy Perry introduced the debut performance by Katie White and Jules De Martino, The Ting Tings who performed their hit single That's Not My Name.
It was a night of firsts for Kanye West. Following his performance he returned to the stage to pick up the Ultimate Urban Award from Leona Lewis.
Another debut followed when Kid Rock took to the stage performing his new single So Hot which morphed into the summer hit of 2008, All Summer Long.
Artist Choice was the next award presented. Chosen by his peers in the music world, Lil' Wayne won his first MTV Europe Music Award presented by Kelly Rowland.
Duffy - in her MTV Europe Music Award's debut - performed Mercy. This soulful song was complemented by the breathtaking set design.
Estelle - accompanied by the winner of the Sony Ericsson FanWalk - announced Britney's second award of the evening for Act of 2008. The MTV audience clearly demonstrated their unswerving support for the singer.
The ultimate power of the audience vote was underlined when Rick Astley scooped Best Act Ever. Rick was not available to attend the Awards. In his absence the Award was picked up by Katy Perry and Perez Hilton who charmed the audience with a quick dance routine to his famous track. In a statement Astley said: "I am honoured that my fans worked so hard to help me win Best Act Ever at the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards. This is the first time I have been nominated for the EMAs and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me."
Sir Paul McCartney was honoured in a special award - the Ultimate Legend Award - which was presented to him by U2 lead singer Bono. This award not only recognised how Sir Paul is one of the most formative influences on the music scene on a global scale but that he is one of the founding fathers that has earned Liverpool the recent accolade as Most Musical City in the UK.
Continuing MTV's love affair with Liverpool, The Wombats then took to the stage and performed a cover version of Leona Lewis' Bleeding Love.
The final award of the evening - Europe's Favourite Act - was presented to Turkey's Emre Aydin by Tiziano Ferro and Lauri Rasmus.
P!nk provided a shattering finale to the fifteenth MTV Europe Music Awards with a stunningly energetic performance of So What. Storming from the glamour pit through the crowds to the stage, not only was she joined by 30 fans who engaged in a pillow fight which ended with the whole audience being showered with 40,000 four inch white feathers.
