New York, NY. (Top 40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - On January 1st, 2009, TuneCore is introducing a new way that bands can get paid for free downloads.

Under this new model, bands chose which corporations they drive their music fans to in order for the fan to get a free song with the band being paid for each download. It's the democratization of corporate sponsorship; instead of corporations deciding which bands they choose, bands decide which corporations they choose. The music fan gets free music from a band they love and the band gets paid.

Bands need to capitalize on ways to earn money in the rapidly changing music business. This model is a brand new way to monetize fame that utilizes opportunities created by the internet, a recurring theme with TuneCore.

Here's how it works. TuneCore customers get paid by a corporate sponsor each time there is an authorized free download of that artist's song at the sponsor's webpage. Sponsors pay TuneCore the equivalent of a "banner ad fee" to drive traffic to their website. TuneCore shares this money with its customers by allowing the artist to "opt-in" at their own discretion to tell their fans to click on a link to get a free song from the artist at the sponsor's webpage.

On January 1st, 2009 the first of these sponsorship opportunities will launch. IK Multimedia - makers of Amplitube, T-Racks and other music creation software - will be the first sponsor in music history to have bands drive their fans to their web page for a free song. At the end of the month of January, each band will get their share of $5,000.
