SEATTLE, WA. (Top40 Charts/ Musica Festival) - Chantel "Chani" Christie, daughter of NBA power couple, Doug and Jackie Christie, received the 2009 Martin Luther King County Jr. Executives Award for Excellence in Hip Hop at the Musica Festival this past weekend. Chani Christie was one of ten finalists nominated for the prestigious award. Upon receiving the award Chani Christie dedicated the award to our 44th President, Barack Obama, for his achievements and inauguration.

"It means the world to me to receive the Martin Luther King County Jr. Executives Award for Excellence in Hip Hop from KUBE 93.5FM Radio, at this historic time. We are welcoming our first African American President of the United States of America, and I dedicated my award to President Barack Obama for being a great role model for me as well as youth around the world, and for bringing a positive change to our country," says the 2009 recipient.

Following the event, Chani performed at the 37th Legislative District Democratic Inauguration Celebration for President Barack Obama. One of the songs she performed was the hit single, "Don't Be Shy," featured on the soundtrack of Warner Brothers' "Another Cinderella Story", which premiered this past Sunday on ABC Family.

"Today in time, America is witnessing history unfold, and even though I am only 15-years-old I am honored to be a part of it. To witness our first African-American President being sworn into office, is phenomenal, and youth around the world can say to themselves that no dream is too big to achieve," Chani comments.

About Chantel "Chani" Christie: Chani hails from Seattle, Washington and already claims the titles of author, model, actress, recording artist, and spokesperson. This 15 year old United States youth ambassador is making her mark by leading the youth across the world to follow their dreams. Chani recently launched her TV Show "Chani's Story," an original reality web television series about her life and her story. The show allows teens to see the reality of breaking into show biz from the inside, and that it takes hard work and courage to succeed.

About Musica Festival: Celebrating Hip Hop and its impact on music, diversity, lifestyle, and culture worldwide. This four-day event also honors the legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Hip Hop is still a voice for social change. Like Dr. King, Hip Hop is controversial. As a worldwide phenomenon Hip Hop serves as an outlet for oppressed people. Through Hip Hop, the festival seeks to honor the legacy of Dr. King by showcasing national and local artists' voices and talent.
