NEW YORK, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Columbia Records) - UK act, Glasvegas, announce an extensive US tour beginning on March 23rd in New Orleans and ending on April 16th in San Francisco. The 19 date tour is the band's largest undertaking in
America to date and comes hot on the heels of their first national sold-out tour in January 2009 (please see full tour itinerary following).
Concertgoers around the nation will be able to see the band perform songs from their self-titled debut album, Glasvegas, which has been available for physical purchase in the US since January 6th. Seattle-based publication The Stranger described the album as "striking" and "highly satisfying" while New York's Newsday described it as "overflowing with nuance and detail."
The band has also drawn strong support online, with iTunes nominating Glasvegas as a Top 10 New Artist of 08, and picking the first single from the album, "Geraldine," as No 2 Alternative Single of 08 and as Single of the Week on October 28th. Additionally, online music service Rhapsody is featuring the single in its new bubble spot campaign.
Glasvegas performed "Geraldine" in early January at their US TV debut on Late Show with David Letterman and the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. At radio, "Geraldine" had early adds at Sirius/Alt Nation, KCMP / Minneapolis, and KCNL / San Jose. The single will impact at Alternative and AAA formats on January 27th.
Formed in Glasgow in 2006, Glasvegas is James Allan (vocals, rhythm guitar), Rab Allan (lead guitar, backing vocals), Paul Donoghue (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Caroline McKay (drums). Early on in their career Glasvegas caught the attention of British music mogul and tastemaker Alan McGee, who heralded the band as "The most exciting thing I've heard since Jesus and Mary Chain." Their first three UK singles, "Go Square Go!," "Daddy's Gone," and "It's My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry," established the band's reputation for what the BBC describes as "rockabilly and pop from the 1950s and '60s, using a backdrop of brooding guitars to create their own wall of sound."
In 2008, Glasvegas traveled to the US to record their self-titled debut album at New York's Brooklyn Recording Studios, with production by band frontman James Allan and Rich Costey (Interpol, Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Mew). Glasvegas entered the UK charts at No 2 in its first week of release (behind Metallica at No 1). The debut single, "Geraldine," reached No 16 on the UK charts and No 1 on the NME singles chart. The band has gone on to grace the cover of NME twice with headlines exclaiming them as "Britain's Best Loved Band" and "The Best New Band in Britain."
Glasvegas is available stateside on Columbia Records.
