New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - Two Smithsonian Folkways Recordings releases were named winners at the 8th Annual Independent Music Awards. Tony Trischka's 'Territory' won for Best Americana Album and the Paschall Brothers' 'On the Right Road Now' won for Best Gospel Album. This year's winners were determined by a 50-person judging panel consisting of influential artists and industry decision makers including Peter Gabriel, Suzanne Vega, Roger Daltrey, George Jones, Buddy Guy, Keith Urban and others.

Renowned banjo innovator Tony Trischka is widely recognized as one of the most innovative and respected musicians in his field. On 'Territory,' he showcases the banjo and its rich history using spectacular technique and incorporating a wide variety of styles including African-American string band, four-string tenor Irish-Celtic plectrum-style banjo, Hawaiian slide/steel guitar, iconoclastic Americana and pre-bluegrass picking styles. 'Territory' highlights Tony Trischka's penchant for integrating various styles and methods from around the world and his endless ability to write captivating melodies perfectly suited for the versatile and charismatic banjo. Notable guests on the album include Pete Seeger, Mike Seeger, Bill Evans, Bill Keith and Bruce Molsky.

Legendary Virginia-based African-American Quartet The Paschall Brothers have attracted attention for their silken voices, intricate harmonies and classic Virginia Tidewater sound for over twenty-five years. 'On the Road Right Now' features 13 original and traditional tracks that carry on the African-American 'roots gospel' tradition that emerged in the post-Civil War South. Founded by the Reverend Frank Paschall Sr. and his sons, The Paschall Brothers' are praised for their signature a cappella which has helped established the group as one of the leading gospel quartets in America. The album is part of the Smithsonian Folkways African American Legacy series, co-presented with the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (https://nmaahc.si.edu/), and produce in partnership with the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities (https://www.virginiafoundation.org/).

Produced by Music Resource Group, the Independent Music Awards is a unique, international program that helps vetted indie artists and releases overcome mainstream obstacles and reach wider audiences via strategic partnerships and active promotions.
