Discovered by 3-time country music "Female Vocalist of the Year" Janie Fricke in 1981, Neal McCoy spent several years opening for country superstar Charley Pride before making his Atlantic Records debut in 1990. Four years later, he teamed with Muscle Shoals producer Barry Beckett to record No Doubt About It. Selling more than a million copies, the album ignited McCoy's career with a trio of hits, including a pair of No 1s and the Top 10 hit, "The City Put the Country Back in Me." His next album, You Gotta Love That, was certified platinum, and his self-titled album in 1996 was certified gold. More hits followed on Be Good At It (1997), The Life Of The Party (1999), 24-7-365 (2000) and That's Life (2005), the first album released on independent label, 903 Music.

Recognized by his peers for his good works, in 2005 he won the Academy of Country Music's Home Depot Humanitarian Award for his extensive work with the USO and the East Texas Angel Network. He was honored again in 2006 at the 37th Annual Country Radio Seminar in Nashville with the Country Radio Broadcasters' Artist Humanitarian of the Year Award, and in 2007 the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas honored the singer with the W. B. and Brandon Carrell Humanitarian Award, the highest honor given to a non-Mason.
