LOS ANGELES (Doors Fans Website) - Coming off the success of their recent performances at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles and at the Palms in Las Vegas, the band's booking agency is looking at offers from promoters for shows in the Midwest and East for April and May along with summer shows in Europe.
While the group's representatives said former Police drummer Stewart Copeland is still considered a member of the group, it is not known if he will participate in upcoming tour dates along with original Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek, original guitarist Robby Krieger, singer Ian Astbury of the Cult, and bassist Angelo Barbera. Copeland was unable to play at the Universal concert due to an elbow injury, so Ty Dennis took the drum chair and will do so on other dates if Copeland has to bow out.
The band's reunion actually began last year, thanks to motorcycle manufacturer Harley Davidson's 100th anniversary concert series. Manzarek explained how it happened. "Robbie called me and said, 'Hey, Harley wants us to play,'" Manzarek said. "Now Robbie's done a lot of things for Harley - The Love Ride, and all kinds of charities - and they said 'get the Doors back together' and we said, 'Yeah, what a good idea, let's do it, man.'"
The Doors reunion took place last September at the California Motor Speedway in Fontana, California, in front of tens of thousands of people, and Krieger said it certainly inspired him to continue on. "Well, it was quite amazing for me, because I hadn't played a huge, you know, outdoor thing like that, for, as the Doors or anybody else for a long time," Krieger said. "And it was just great to see all those people, and man they were so into it, you know, it was incredible."
