NEW YORK (Top40 Charts) - According to the Green Day's official website, the members of band have confirmed release details for their 8th studio album '21st Century Breakdown.'
The 16-track album is produced by Butch Vig [Nirvana, Garbage], it is divided into three sections, titled "Heroes and Cons," "Charlatans and Saints" and "Horseshoes and Handgrenades," that form a loose narrative around two characters named Gloria and Christian.

The follow up to 2004's 'American Idiot' will hit shelves in the USA on 15 May, 2009.
First single 'Know Your Enemy' will proceed the release in mid-April and the Green Day will embark on a major world tour in support of the disc, beginning in July with a North American indoor arena trek.

Billie Armstrong has told Rolling Stone Magazine: "the band's eighth studio album entitled '21st Century Breakdown' will be another political album.
A lot of people were born into an unlucky time, the era of George W Bush. There is an optimism now with Obama... be aware. Don't look at this guy as the answer to our prayers. You still need to be involved."

Also, Billie Joe Armstrong has claimed the band's new songs are "middle-aged".
