NEW YORK (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - Son Volt are gearing up for a busy summer with the release of their new album 'American Central Dust' July 7 on Rounder Records, an appearance at the Rothbury festival in Rothbury, MI, and a co-headlining tour with the Cowboy Junkies, which kicks off July 8 in Denver, CO.

Son Volt band leader, songwriter and lyricist Jay Farrar frequently tackles complex topics in his songs, and the material on the new album may be some of his strongest yet, with topics as varied as cocaine, maritime tragedies, gas prices and Keith Richards. Pulling spirit from touchstones like the Flying Burrito Brothers, 'Sweetheart of the Rodeo' and the Rolling Stones 'Beggars Banquet,' the new album refines the bands robust sound, harkening back to the melodic clarity of their debut album 'Trace.'
