New York (Top40 Charts/ Freedom Party NYC Website) - The Freedom Party has moved! After almost three years at the Canal Room, one of the city's most beloved nightlife destinations, New York City's No 1 legendary, weekly Friday-night dance party called Freedom now resides at Le Poisson Rouge. Once home to the lauded Club Life, the last of the great club-land hideouts, and the even more praised and downright historic Village Gate, Le Poisson
Rouge is an 1100-person venue in the heart of Greenwich Village on Bleecker Street, where thousands of revelers canvas that stretch of city sidewalk every weekend looking for fun.
The Freedom Party, a weekly dance party running for seven years, takes almost no time off! Not since Giant Step's Thursday night acid-jazz parties, or Frankie Jackson's Soul Kitchen, or the cherished soulful-house gathering Shelter, has New York City seen a party with this much success and fervor. Each week, more than 600 people fill the Freedom dance floor, grooving to the funky, soulful sounds of the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and today, singing the words of their favorite R&B track, rapping the lyrics to their favorite hip-hop song, and working a sweat to classic club hits that span almost five decades!
And just this year, the Freedom brand touched down with two wildly successful events in new markets-Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. and is now available for booking all over the world.
The Freedom Party was created in 2002 by three disc jockeys, DJ Marc Smooth, DJ Cosi, and party planner/restaurant critic/nightlife journalist, DJ Herbert Holler and now has a following of over 30,000. 'Our mission was to bring music back to the forefront,' says Herbert. 'We wanted to make the dance floor the most sought-after section in the house, not the VIP area. We basically wanted to have fun again.' And fun is what they've been having ever since this party has opened its doors. After countless reviews in both local and international magazines, a million write-ups on just about every website and blog one can think of, and after almost a whopping 365 parties, Freedom is moving forward with no end in sight, bringing in people from as far away as Japan, Italy, Denmark, Brazil, Ireland, France, London and Canada, to the not-so-far-away places like D.C., Philadelphia, Atlanta, Texas, Los Angeles and more.
Whether it's a classic rap song, a Jimi Hendrix rock anthem, a New Wave gem you haven't heard in a long time, a good-old Motown track you can't help but move to, a Marley joint that takes you to a warmer place, or just a simple, side-to-side love song they used to play at the prom, The Freedom Party plays it all, and plays it well. Every single Friday, week in, week out, our dance floor is the most sought after in NYC nightlife.
See you there!
