Rock & roll will never die - not if Joe Steel has anything to say about it. What this Mega Power Trio has to say, they're saying loud, taking it to stages nationwide and blaring it from the speakers on their indie debut 'Rock Hard or Die.' As part of their aural assault, Joe Steel next storms stages at Paladino's on June 18 (6101 Reseda Blvd., Tarzana) and the legendary Cat Club on June 25 (8911 W Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood).
The band's moniker has its roots in the New York City scene of the early Eighties. Originally, Joe Steel rose from the ashes of the New Wave band The Coup. That's when Kevin 'Spyder' Williams, Ty 'Doc' Phillips and lead vocalist Kind David II forged a new direction in music with the first all African-American hard rock band, predating the formation of Living Colour by some years.
Record company execs instantly recognized the potential in Joe Steel's sold-out NYC club shows, telling the band they could easily fill Madison Square Garden if given the chance. Alas, that chance never came as those same execs could never get a handle on how to properly market such a ground-breaking act.
Some 18 years after disbanding in disappointment and disillusionment, Spyder and Doc got to talking again and decided the time had come to regroup. Relocating to Los Angeles, they met Holland-born drummer Mike Zwaaf. Joe Steel was finally ready to claim its place in the Rock & Roll pantheon of great hard music.
'We're back!' Doc assures the world. 'We're bigger, badder, louder and more powerful. We may be a little bit older, but we're rocking harder than ever!'
Joe Steel's show is explosive, their music pounding. Always ahead of its time, the ensuing years have ensured that the rest of the world has caught up with Joe Steel. Rock and roll is alive and well. The time for Joe Steel is now.
