LOS ANGELES CA. (It's Alive! Media) - Los Angeles band Great Northern (www.greatnorthernmusic.com), who have been described in a recent Billboard review as "If the
Cranberries and the Smiths got together and had a love child, it would be Great Northern', has been added into rotation at Seattle commercial radio station KNDD FM 'The End' this week.
"Ever have a record that everyone at the station loves?' asks Assistant Program Director Andrew Harms of KNDD. 'I'm talking about a healthy amount of curiosity, not a record that boring, old school programming philosophy will give you a thousand reasons not to play, but for some reason everyone you know likes it? The most fun thing we allow ourselves to do at The End is to play these records and that is why we added Great Northern".
Great Northern will hit the road this week with She Wants Revenge followed by a headline club July tour of Britain. The band is touring in support of their April 14th release, Remind Me Where The Light Is, from Eenie Meanie Records.
Confirmed tour dates are:
6/11 @ The Glass House, Pomona, CA (w/ She Wants Revenge)
6/12 @ Bimbos, San Francisco, CA (w/ She Wants Revenge)
6/14 @ House of Blues, San Diego, CA (w/ She Wants Revenge)
7/07 @ Barfly, London, England
7/08 @ Water Rats, London, England
7/09 @ Korova (Club Evol), Liverpool, England
7/10 @ Koko (Club NME), London, England
In May, the band began a major hot streak with a month long national tour with The Dears. Then, ABC's hit television drama Grey's Anatomy licensed the track 'Houses'and the band found itself in the Top 20 New Album Chart on iTunes.
Soon enough, 'Houses' was Amazon's No 1 download of the week in the Alternative Genre for the week of release. A live radio performance on tastemaker radio station KCRW's 'Morning Becomes Eclectic' quickly followed. With 'Houses'now being added to commercial radio, the band is being exposed to a whole new audience.
Frequently compared to everyone from Stevie Nicks (Los Angeles Magazine) and Madonna(Pitchfork) fronting My Bloody Valentine (Magnet Magazine), collaborators Solon Bixler and Rachel Stolte's sophomore full-length effort is a seamless release of full throttle guitar, moody synths and haunting ballads that both electrify and chill.
Rarely does an upright piano, a cat's meow (literally), a bombastic drum fill and a lilting vocal feel so fresh that it's not until the final bar on the last track, '33' that the bands melding of style seem so jarring. Prior, it just sounds harmonious.
