Barry White recovers from stroke

LOS ANGELES (Barry White Fans Website) - Singer Barry White is recovering from a stroke that affected his speech and the right side of his body, his daughter has said.

White, 58, suffered the stroke earlier this month while waiting for a kidney transplant, daughter Shaherah said.
He needs the transplant because of complications from years of chronic high blood pressure.

Ms White said her father must be stabilised before he could undergo the kidney operation. She said: He's had a minor setback, but have no fear, he'll be fine. He will definitely be performing again."
She described him as being in "great spirits".

White was forced to cancel a series of concerts after going into hospital in August 1999 for treatment for his blood pressure.
He is undergoing dialysis treatment.

Ms White was speaking at a news conference about plans to rename South Park Recreation Center in Los Angeles after her father, who grew up in the area.

The singer is known for his rich bass vocals and is affectionately nicknamed The Walrus of Love for his smooth, romantic 1970s soul records.
