On that night, Harlem Fusion and BrownFace will once again bring together some of the hottest talent from around the country for another installment of Soul Sessions Urban
Music Showcase. But this time, Soul Sessions will not only be celebrating fresh talent; the producers will host a showcase entitled Legends. Soul Sessions
Legends celebrates the best artists to hit the Soul Sessions stage. Tentatively scheduled to perform are urban gospel hip hop artist Jay Cabassa, r&b sensation Chavani, hip hop artist D Julien and Omni Blaize. Soul Sessions will also introduce some new faces for our July event. This third year of Soul Sessions will be one of its best ever making it by far the most successful and groundbreaking independent artist showcase in New York City.
Since October 2006, Soul Sessions has established itself as the premiere urban music showcase for exceptional emerging artists. To truly honor what the legacy has come to represent, the show will feature performances by alumni of Soul Sessions who have gone on to become some of the most talked about underground talents across the globe.
While Soul Sessions is certainly not the only artist showcase in New York City, the brand has set itself apart by consistently providing a professional, yet comfortable setting where indie artists can network with reputable industry professionals. Past showcase attendee and judges include award winning rap artist Q The Prophet, Chief Executive Officer of Ru1 Records, Ruben Cobos, Owner of By Any Means Entertainment, Aristotle Torres, Island Def Jam Public Relations Executive, Alexandra Bianchi, Guidon Records CEO, Gabriel Godoy, DJ Gregg Storm, Ru1 Soul Tunes DJ, Ana K, the media, and other industry tastemakers. 'Artists know that performing in Soul Sessions Urban Music Showcase means the opportunity to truly connect with an elite group of entertainment industry professionals,' says Shakesha Dennis-Williams, Co-Executive Producer and Co-Founder. Harlem Fusion Enterprises and BrownFace has also stayed true to its commitment to serve as an advocate to emerging artists, refusing to make any false claims about what the showcase can do. 'Over the past few years, I've made it clear to artists as to what they should expect from Soul Sessions,' states Marsha Gauntlett-Kirby, Co-Executive Producer of the showcase. 'What they can expect is to leave the event with connections that can help further their career in the music industry.'
Soul Sessions Urban Music Showcase was born out of a desire by Dennis-Williams and Gauntlett-Kirby, entertainment industry executives and CEO's in their own right, to share a great opportunity with musicians. In its early stages, Soul Sessions served as a platform for truly talented singers, poets, and musicians to introduce themselves to the world. In the three years since, the Soul Sessions brand has grown to open mics, a monthly concert and Soul Sessions TV featured on Youtube. The show will also expand its market to include shows in Atlanta and Philadelphia. as well as its staple showcase in New York, continuing to bring together the stars of tomorrow and the trendsetters of today. Of seeing their mission come to fruition, Dennis-Williams humbly remarks, 'The music industry can be very segregated and we're grateful that we have been able to bridge the gap between the industry and those trying to break into it.'
