RECORD OF THE WEEK

Evanescence - Bring me to life Sounding like a cross between Kate Bush and Linkin Park, Evanescence are the latest US sensations looking all set to rock this side of the Atlantic. Already featured heavily in the Ben Affleck vehicle 'Daredevil', the band's debut release, 'Bring Me To Life', is an emotional, ethereal and at times, heavy, single that also highlights a future star in vocalist Amy Lee. A superb song.

HOT SHOT RECORD

Electric Six - Gay Bar Having kicked some life into the charts with their last single, the impossibly cool 'Danger! High Voltage', Detroit rockers Electric Six return this week with another slice of hi-octane, slightly camp, scuzzed-up rock action. Keeping the guitar-edged drama at the fore, 'Gay Bar' is slightly darker and more direct than its predecessor, but what that lacked in tongue-in-cheek antics this live fave more than makes up for.

Melanie C - On The Horizon The follow-up single to 'Here It Comes Again', taken from her album 'Reason'. This is quite a cheery well back tune with a hint of summery feel to it. It's nice to see Mel back in our charts after a 3-year absence since her last single. It's got to be said she is one of the best out of all the Spice Girls with a remarkable voice.

Grandaddy - Now It's On Our favourite Californians release their first new material for nearly two years this week with their glorious new single, 'Now It's On'. The first taster of the band's forthcoming 'Sumday' album, it finds Grandaddy at their melodic, laid-back best and serves as a perfect appetiser of what's to come on said album, a must for the fans and newcomers alike!

Ashley Hamilton - Wimmin' As the first few lines of Ashley Hamilton's anthemic debut single, 'Wimmin', smuggle their way into your head, it's clear to see that this Los Angeles native is never going to be part of the pre-packaged pop fraternity that currently fills the charts. Co-written by Robbie Williams (who also provides backing vocals), 'Wimmin' is witty, tongue-in-cheek rock-tinted pop that launches young Ashley Hamilton firmly onto the UK's musical radar.

Hot Action Cop - Fever For The Flava Hot Action Cop are: Rob Werthner (vocals), Tim Flaherty (guitars), Luis Espaillat (bass) and Kory Knipp (drums), and 'Fever For The Flava' is their UK debut single. Already creating a buzz on the US college radio circuit, not-to-mention skate parks everywhere, it's a fried mix of pop, metal, punk and straight-up funk (think early Chili Peppers) that's all set to blast this four-piece into an entirely new musical stratosphere.

iiO - At The End It's been a while, but Iio finally return this week with the long-awaited follow-up to 2001's Ibiza anthem, 'Rapture'. Already creating a bit of a buzz (and warming up nicely for THIS summer's dance madness), 'At The End' is a rare thing. Like its predecessor, it manages to easily meld dance with a slight hint of pop, and in the process creates a track that'll have enough appeal to crossover to both the underground and overground dance markets.

Marilyn Manson - mOBSCENE Inspired by "the glamour of 1930's Hollywood, the grotesque of vaudeville and the cabaret decadence and 'degenerate' art of Weimar Berlin", 'mOBSCENE' is the first single from Marilyn Manson's long-awaited new album, 'Golden Age Of Grotesque'. A twisted cabaret inspired glam-metal stomp (in true Manson style).

One True Voice - Shakespeare's (Way With) Words Having been thrust into the limelight in December last year as joint winners (along with Girls Aloud) of Pop Stars: The Rivals, One True Voice notched up a Top 5 hit, became media darlings, then, when everything seemed to be going swimmingly, disappeared from view. Well, this week sees them return with a brand new single in the shape of 'Shakespeare's (Way With) Words'. Effortlessly melding disco with pop, it's leagues away from their last single 'Sacred Trust' and finds the five-piece taking the fight to fellow Pop Rivals Girls Aloud.

Shania Twain - Forever And For Always The third single from Shania Twain's latest, highly successful album, 'Up!', 'Forever & For Always' also happens to be one of its best. Finding the country-rock chanteuse in a more reflective mode, it also highlights exactly what a talented singer/song-writer she actually is.
