Awesome New Republic are having a big few weeks. They just recorded an episode of "The Hills" last week. Their new EP, 'Rational Geographic Vol. II' is available as a free download starting today at their site . To top it all off, they're gearing up for another trip to New York, for an appearance at the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival 8/8 (full list of tour dates below).

The band's latest single, available above, is "Florida". It's a driving, guitar-and-drum-fueled survey of the Sunshine State's distinct end-of-the-world vibe. Over drums that thunder like the footfalls of a frenzied mob, ANR sings of insane millionaires, car chases, immigrants, alligators, casinos, and dance clubs; it's like the view from a low-flying drug runner's Cessna of the ever-refreshing beautiful apocalypse of South Florida. It's the kind of rock song that's usually followed by an explosion. It's indicative of the thrills inside 'Rational Geographic Vol. II'.

Awesome New Republic were recently named Best Band In Miami by the Miami New Times, and have gotten love everywhere from the New York Times to Pitchfork (who premiered their new video) to Stereogum, and a million places in between. Look for Volume III, and a proper full-length album, this fall.
