LONDON, UK (Top40 Charts/ EMI Music Publishing) - EMI Music Publishing has struck a new merchandising partnership with Transport For London (TfL), to create a new range of mugs and T-shirts featuring lyrics from songs about London.

The range features lyrics written by EMI Music Publishing songwriters including Peter Doherty, Eddy Grant, Steve Marriott & Ronnie Laine, Sir John Johns (aka Andy Partridge) and Suggs. Each lyric features on merchandise in two individual designs - one based on the classic London Underground typography and map designed by Harry Beck, and one inspired by the song, its genre and era.

The designs were created by London-based design agency 1977 Design, whose body of work includes designs for clients including Wimbledon, Paramount Pictures and Arsenal Football Club. Both sets of designs will be available on mugs and T-shirts, available to purchase exclusively online at www.tfl.gov.uk/shop.

EMI Music Publishing UK Vice President of Sales Melanie Johnson said: 'London and music are inextricably linked, and a huge number of songwriters across all genres and time periods have been inspired by our capital city. We're thrilled to become the first music company to work with Transport for London, and to link the music of our writers with music fans in this new and interesting way.'

Transport for London Brand Manager Saskia Boersma commented: 'London Underground is a major part of life in the Capital and as such the Tube has featured in many song lyrics . We are delighted to work with the innovative talents of 1977Design and EMI for what promises to be one of Transport for London's most interesting collaborations.'

Six songs will be available as part of the initial range, all handpicked for their London inspired lyrics, and subsequently linked to the closest tube stop to the place referenced in the song.

The songs are:
'Camden Town' 1995 written by Suggs & Michael Barson, published by EMI Music Publishing Ltd.
'Electric Avenue' 1982 written by Eddy Grant, published by EMI Music Publishing Ltd.
'Albion' 2005 written by Peter Doherty, published by EMI Music Publishing Ltd.
'Itchycoo Park' 1967 written Steve Marriot & Ronnie Lane, published by EMI Music Publishing Ltd.
'Towers Of London' 1980 written by Sir John Johns, published by EMI Music Publishing Ltd.
'The Boy Looked At Johnny' 2002 written by Peter Doherty & Carl Barat, published by EMI Music Publishing Ltd.
