Fashion designer Ken Courtney says that he got a cease-and-desist letter from a Strokes-affiliated lawyer because Time Out magazine ran a photo of a model wearing a t-shirt he had designed. The shirt was emblazoned with the message, "I f***ed The Strokes". According to Courtney, the lawyer's letter said that his t-shirt "dilutes the Strokes' valuable trademark". Courtney says that the shirt was made especially for the photo shoot and was never made available commercially. The designer claims that the Strokes' lawyer wrote, "A 14-year old fan who sees one of those shirts is not necessarily going to know it's a joke."
