New York (Top40 Charts/ NYSC) - On August 24th the legendary New York Songwriters' Circle (NYSC), famous for discovering and helping to launch the careers of Norah Jones and Gavin DeGraw, will kickoff its first Los Angeles showcase/concert event at the landmark nightclub, 'The Mint.' Performing on the 24th will be well-known singers/songwriters Shelly Peiken, Diana Gone Wrong, Kevin Griffin, Chris Cron and Ricky Sans of 'Melee."

Beginning on the 24th the NYSC and The Mint will host monthly showcase concert events for aspiring and established songwriters to perform their latest works and take turns in the pure tradition of songwriters in the round.

For over 19 years, the New York Songwriters Circle (NYSC) and singer/songwriter Tina Shafer have been producing and directing bi-monthly showcase events at the legendary Bitter End club, in NewYork City's West Village. Just three years ago, the NYSC launched its hugely successful "Songwriting Contest" with the assistance of some of the music industry's most outstanding professionals (i.e. Grammy Award winning producer Russ Titelman) and executives from many areas of the entertainment industry serving as judges. Norah Jones, Jesse Harris, Lisa Loeb, Vanessa Carlton, Gavin DeGraw, Kate Voegele, Company of Thieves, Chris Barron and Mieka Pauley are just a few of the performers the NYSC has discovered, recorded and launched to stardom.

2009 Songwriting Contest - Submissions

The New York Songwriters' Circle is currently accepting submissions for its fourth annual Songwriting Contest. Past contest winners include Kate Voegele, (currently starring in the hit TV Show "One Tree Hill"); "Company Of Thieves," ("One of the top bands to watch for in 2008" by the Chicago Daily Herald) and Mieka Pauley. Get your songs heard by top music industry professionals, gain exposure, win cash prizes and become a part of the fastest growing songwriting community in the world! Selected writers will be invited to perform as part of the circle's ongoing showcases in Boston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and New York.
