New York (Top40 Charts/ Atlantic Records) - "HOT MESS," the acclaimed new album from Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen recording group Cobra Starship, has made a phenomenal chart debut on this week's Billboard 200. The collection - which includes the smash single, "Good Girls Go Bad (Feat. Leighton Meester)" - entered the album chart at No 4, marking the New York-based band's highest chart ranking to date.
Produced by Kevin Rudolf (Lil' Wayne, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West), "Good Girls Go Bad" is proving to be Cobra Starship's biggest hit single thus far, currently ranking among the top 10 tracks on Billboard's "Hot 100." The single - recently certified gold by the RIAA, with sales in excess of 800,000 - is also a favorite at Mainstream Top 40 radio, where it is a bulleted top 10 blockbuster.
A true online sensation, "Good Girls Go Bad" has already logged over 48 million streams at Cobra Starship's popular MySpace page, conveniently located at www.myspace.com/cobrastarship. The track is currently No 1 on the iTunes "Top Alternative Songs" tally, with its companion video standing tall at No 2 on the "Top Alternative Music Videos" chart.
The "Good Girls Go Bad" video recently received a pair of prestigious MTV Video Music Awards nominations. The clip - which features a co-starring performance from Meester, known far and wide for her role as "Blair Waldorf" on The CW's blockbuster series, "Gossip Girl" - has been named in the "Best Pop Video" category alongside such superstars as Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Britney Spears. In addition, "Good Girls Go Bad" also received a "Best Direction" nod, acknowledging the work of photographer/filmmaker Kai Regan (The Virgins, CocoRosie). Cobra Starship - who have been prominently featured in MTV's VMA promotional campaign - will be among the stars appearing at the annual ceremonies, slated for broadcast live on MTV on Sunday, September 13th. "Good Girls Goes Bad" remains one of MTV's most popular videos. The clip was recently bumped into "Jolt" rotation at MTV and "Elite 8" rotation at MTV2 - the highest rotation available at both channels.
Cobra Starship are currently wrapping up their "Hot Mess Across The US" summer headline tour, set to conclude on August 31st with a sold-out show at Providence, Rhode Island's Club Hell (see below itinerary). In October, the dance-punk sensations will hit the road once again, this time as part of the "OP Presents: Boys Like Girls, Cobra Starship, The Maine, A Rocket To The Moon and Versa Emerge tour." The band will join Boys Like Girls on the major North American trek beginning October 17th at Milwaukee's Eagles Ballroom and continue through a two-night-stand at Foxboro, Massachusetts' Showcase Live on November 27th and 28th. Also appearing on the tour will be The Maine and Cobra Starship's Fueled By Ramen labelmates A Rocket To The Moon and VersaEmerge.
"HOT MESS" has already earned a bevy of brilliant reviews from an array of national publications. People declared the album to be "a sexy, synthed-up come on that proves irresistible," noting that "if you're in the mood for cheeky fun and catchy grooves, then you'll want to have Cobra Starship in your musical orbit." Billboard praised "HOT MESS" as "full of rhythmic dance songs and power-pop anthems," while Alternative Press called it "a heaping serving of synth, hyper-infectious beats, and a side of sass."
"It's daft, it's dorky, it's discofied, but it's also deliciously fun and kitschy," decreed USA Today, further praising the album as "sheer summer escapism." Rolling Stone hailed the album as "packed with electro-sleaze tunes that go over the top in both their bright sound - sassy hook-singing girls are prevalent - and wink-wink mien."
