NEW YORK (Top40 Charts/ Universal Republic Records) - Universal Republic band Godsmack capped their acclaimed tour with Motley Crue - Crue Fest 2 - in style this past week, scoring their 5th 1 Single at Active Rock, notching the coveted top spot at Active Rock and the Mediabase format with their first single in nearly three years, 'Whiskey Hangover.' The song was released sans-album, a special gift to fans in celebration of the band's acclaimed live slot on this one of this summer's hottest rock tours. The tour finally wound down on September 5th in Darien Lake, NY, with critics like 411Mania.com hailing both the tour and 'Whiskey Hangover' as vintage Godsmack: ''Hangover' is a welcome return to the band's well-established sound. Powerful...'

The new song arrived in mid-June as the first 'sanctioned' Godsmack offering since their widely acclaimed Greatest Hits package, Good Times Bad Times....Ten Years of Godsmack was delivered to fans at the end of 2007. 'Whiskey Hangover' reigns as a record-breaking 17th Top 10 single for the Boston band, extending Godsmack's ownership of the most Top 10 hits in active rock history. The band also has parked a rarified 14 songs in the Top Five more than seminal superstars such as Linkin Park and Metallica.

Known for their own relentless touring regimen, Godsmack has also established one of the most formidable live repertoires in rock, having been among the most in-demand live acts of recent years, including acclaimed appearances at past Ozzfests, sold out tours with other mega-headliners such as Metallica, and the star attractions of multiple sold-out arena jaunts throughout the world.

Considered one of the definitive alternative hard rock bands of the modern era, 2008 marked the tenth anniversary of Godsmack's self-titled debut album. For more than a decade, the uncompromising band, fronted by the charismatic Sully Erna, have enjoyed an incredible run, selling nearly 14 million albums - highlighted by scores of sold-out international concerts, stages shared with legends, a remarkable 17 hit singles, 4 platinum records, 1 gold EP and three Grammy nominations. One of the few rock bands to have scored double-digits in the radio single format, their most recent studio album, 2006's Godsmack IV, became another platinum-plus trailblazer for the formidable foursome, debuting at No 1 on the Billboard Top albums chart (their 2nd No 1 debut following 2003's Faceless) and harking back to the thunderous arc of multiplatinum masterpieces like their 5 million selling breakthrough debut album and 2000's Awake.

Godmack's releases include Godsmack (1998), Awake (2000), Faceless (2003), The Scorpion King soundtrack (2002), Otherside EP (2004), Godsmack IV (2006), and Good Times Bad Times...Ten Years Of Godsmack (2007). The digital domain is abuzz with rumors that the band is headed back into the studio at the end of this year to begin recording a new studio album.
