NEW YORK (Motown Records) - Tommy Mottola, the music industry heavyweight former head of Sony Music and ex-husband of Mariah Carey, is relaunching Casablanca Records.

Casablanca has been out of business for nearly 20 years, but it was one of the most successful and flamboyant American labels of the 1970's - the home of KISS, The Village People, and George Clinton's Parliament.

Mottola's new Casablanca Records will be part of the Universal Motown Records Group. No word yet on who Mottola's first signing for the label will be.
